On Sunday, May 16th, Vanessa was admitted to the hospital. She has been battling an infection, sepsis, and keeping her organs from failing. Vanessa has done this with grace and acceptance. Currently, there is no official diagnosis, but the dedicated doctors at Kaiser are working towards one. As a dedicated teacher and former teacher of the year, those around her know how difficult it is for Vanessa to be away from her classroom. As well, Vanessa is a dedicated military wife with a husband currently deployed overseas. Vanessa's loving parents are with her during this time, taking care of Vanessa's fur babies (2 adorable dachshunds), her home, and her spirit. Due to COVID, only Vanessa's mother can see her in the hospital. They left their lives in the Bay Area to stay and take care of their oldest daughter.
The money raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to paying for meals for Vanessa and her parents, as well as other family members who rotate to care for the family. It will cover care for Vanessa's pets and the pay Vanessa will miss when her sick leave runs out before the end of the school year. As Vanessa is still hospitalized, meals will be used primarily for her parents and pets (as needed). Since Vanessa is a picky eater and a fairly private person, gift cards and money to purchase foods she can eat and is willing to eat is more appropriate to support her and her family during this time.
Vanessa is one of the most giving, compassionate, and dedicated humans alive. Her love of her students, classroom, and family is unmatched. You can also provide gift cards to specific local restaurants such as Mikuni's, BJ's, Olive Garden, Whole Foods, and Panera. We want to make sure Vanessa and her family are comfortable and provided for during her hospitalization and subsequent recovery.
