Say hello to Vander! Vander is a sweet, 3-year-old brindle pit bull mix who has already endured more pain than most dogs or people will in a lifetime.

Vander was found abandoned in Harris County, Texas as a stray. His ears were crudely and painfully cut by previous owners, and when they weren’t satisfied with the result, they abandoned him. He was picked up by the county shelter, severely underweight, with visible wounds and infections.

When I saw Vander, I knew I had to help. But his recovery journey won’t be easy — and we could use some help.

Vander’s Immediate Needs:

Heartworm Treatment – Vander tested positive for heartworms. This is treatable, but it’s a months-long process involving expensive medication, injections, and follow-up care.

Veterinary Evaluation – Vander needs a full medical workup, ear treatment (for both infection and injury), and a nutrition plan to bring him up to a healthy weight.

Transport from Harris County – We need to get Vander from Harris County to my home in Queen Creek!

Boarding Until He's Cleared – Vander will need a safe, stable place to stay during the early stages of his medical recovery before he can travel to his forever home.

Adoption Fee – There is an adoption fee for Vander to help keep the volunteer organizations and shelters running.

Food, Toys, and Comfort - Vander will need a dog house filled with soft beds and blankets that will act as his safe space in his first few months here, as well as lots of specialty food and treats to help him gain weight until he is a healthy size. And every dog needs toys!

Despite everything he’s been through — the pain, the hunger, the abandonment — Vander remains gentle and trusting. He is bright, alert, and responsive, and shows a deep desire to love and be loved. He just needs a chance. My family and I want to give him that chance.
