Support Vanbrugh College Netball Club: Running 300k for £300

We’re Vanbrugh College Netball Club at the University of York, and we need your help.
After Easter, our college has decided to cut funding for all Vanbrugh College sports clubs, including our netball sessions. Although the league season has ended, we still have the College Cup coming up - an exciting and important competition that all three of our teams are involved in.
What’s the situation?
- We’ve already experienced cuts: from two 1-hour indoor sessions per week to just one 90-minute session outdoors.
- With funding now completely cut, we’re at risk of not being able to train at all.
- An outdoor court costs £20/hour, and an indoor court (preferred - safer surface and unaffected by weather) cost £40/hour - and we simply cannot afford either now
- We are aiming to raise £300, enough to cover a few weekly training sessions to prepare us for the College Cup, provide a safe and fun environment to exercise in, and help secure the club’s future.
Why does this matter?
Netball is more than just a sport for us - we are a tight-knit group of about thirty girls, and this club is a space for us to stay active, build friendships, and support our mental wellbeing. Beyond this, we hold run clubs, have weekly socials and take trips. We can confidently say that for many of us, joining this club has been at the heart of our university experience.
What’s more, for many women, netball is the only sport consistently taught through school. It is an empowering space, and often the only team sport environment designed specifically for women.
What we’re doing:
To raise our target of £300, we’re committing to running 300km between the 5th and the 21st of April - as a club, that’s 1km for every £1 raised. If we hit our goal, we’ll celebrate with a club run in fancy dress - expect chaos, costumes, and lots of photos!
