Valentín is a hardworking family man who was taken into ICE detention while working to provide for his family. He spent more than seven months in detention, where he endured inhumane conditions—experiences shared by thousands of people who remain in ICE detention today.

During his time there, Valentín went days without meals and was sometimes served food that was cold or even contained worms. He was also separated from his family for long periods without meaningful communication. One of the most painful parts of his detention was being unable to be there when his daughter gave birth. Learning that he had a newborn granddaughter gave him hope, and he was eventually released and reunited with his family.

The financial impact of his detention has been overwhelming. Valentín and his family have accumulated significant debt, and he is now working around the clock to rebuild their lives and regain financial stability.
