My name is Kristen Forrest and I have known Vaiya Tehya for over twenty years. She is a dear friend and a single mom trying to make her life as stable as possible for her two amazing elementary aged children.

"I’m reaching out with a humbled heart, feeling a bit embarrassed, but in desperate need of help after a life-changing horseback riding accident on August 15, 2025.

The accident left me with a fractured pelvis in multiple places and a re-fractured left clavicle from a prior horse accident in 2008. As the sole provider for my kids in a single-income household, this injury has upended our lives. I am currently uninsured, as my job’s insurance had not yet kicked in, and I risk losing my job due to recovery time from this accident. I may also need to break my lease, as my home lacks a first-floor bedroom or full bathroom, which I need for mobility and recovery.

In addition as a hard-of-hearing mom, my hearing aids are my lifeline for work, daily life, and caring for my kids. Tragically, I lost one hearing aid during the fall in the arena, and it has not been found. Replacing my hearing aid is critical to keep meeting my children’s needs and daily life's needs.

I am unable to drive for at least six weeks, and my injuries make daily tasks nearly impossible. The mounting medical bills, hearing aid replacement costs, potential job loss, and housing challenges are mounting, and overwhelming, and I’m worried about my kids’ well-being.

I’m humbly asking for support from our Woodlands community, Boulder community, and beyond. Any financial contribution will help cover medical expenses, replace my hearing aid, support living costs, and secure a more accessible home at this time.
