Good morning, my name is Ruben, and the reason for this GoFundMe is in support of a very close and dear friend, Vada, who is diagnosed with a stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma (a breast cancer starting in the ducts that has begun to spread out) on June 2nd, here in Ridgecrest. She was referred to the AIS Cancer Center in Bakersfield and has already had six appointments, from the 11th to the 27th.
The first four appointments were all back-to-back, from the 11th to the 13th. She got all kinds of scans, tests, and consultations. Her chemo port was placed on the 17th, and only ten days later, she got her first round of chemotherapy.
It's currently looking like she'll have five more sessions, each spaced three weeks apart, followed a month later by a surgery to remove the lump.
Once that is done, provided everything goes smoothly, the next step is twelve immunotherapy sessions, which follow the same schedule as chemo - one round every three weeks.
Vada is a wonderful person, and one of the last people who should have to be dealing with a diagnosis like this. She has two young daughters and a loving husband who, unfortunately, can't make it to every appointment with her. Neither one of them has the leave they need for so many appointments, especially when they're an hour and a half away in Bakersfield. Vada's already having to take leave without pay for her next appointment, and it's not even for her second chemo session.
She's been doing her best to stay as strong as possible for everyone else, and it's been hard for her. She's scared, she's in pain, she's been pretty nauseous, and she is going to lose her hair.
I'm setting up this GoFundMe to help her and her family with as much as possible, whether it's gas, hotels, bills, childcare, medicine, or food she can stomach. I would appreciate any help that we could provide to her!
