Every dollar helps put La Gorda, the music video for King Pelican, in the spotlight!

OUR MISSION

La Gorda is more than just a music video; it’s a tribute to Hispanic Western culture, female empowerment, and the power of representation. Westerns rarely highlight women in the rodeo arena, yet in reality, women have always been fierce riders, storytellers, and leaders in these spaces. Through vibrant imagery, music, and storytelling, La Gorda reclaims the spotlight for Latina women and inspires the next generation of girls to see themselves as bold, fearless, and worthy of the arena.

Our mission is to create a visually stunning, culturally rooted, and empowering piece of art that not only entertains but also uplifts underrepresented voices in Western narratives.

WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

Independent films and music videos thrive on community support. Every contribution directly funds the costumes, equipment, sets, and crew that will bring this vibrant story to life. By donating, you are helping us:

Celebrate and preserve Hispanic Western culture; put Latina women at the center of a genre that has historically overlooked them; create opportunities for diverse cast and crew members in film and music; and inspire young girls to embrace their confidence and courage.

This project is a labor of love, but with your help, it becomes a movement. Together, we can tell a story that entertains, uplifts, and makes history!

About King Pelican

King Pelican is a San Antonio-based surf rock trio that mixes the classic 1960s surf sound with garage grit and a Southwestern twist. With driving rhythms and cinematic guitar lines, their music feels like surf rock colliding with a Spaghetti Western: bold, fun, and unforgettable.

THE STORY

La Gorda follows a legendary Latina horseback rider whose fearless energy captivates the rodeo. When a scrappy cowboy surprises her with an unexpected kindness, it sparks a tender romance built on respect and recognition.

Meanwhile, young girls in the crowd watch with wide eyes. For the first time, they see themselves reflected on screen: strong, bold, and worthy of the spotlight. In that moment, the rodeo and the world have a place for them, too.

That’s the power of representation. That’s the legacy of La Gorda.
