Dear Friends,
I’m reaching out today with a heavy heart to share the devastating news of the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, in the small community of Cascade, Jamaica. This is the home of my dear friend, Uton Hill, and his family.
Uton, who worked for American Airlines in Miami before retiring, later became a starter at Melreese Golf Course. After retiring, he and his wife moved back to Jamaica to settle in the Parish of Hanover, which is located just west of Montego Bay—right where the storm’s eye passed. The damage there is unimaginable.
I’ve always felt a deep connection to Uton, not just because of the fond memories we’ve shared, but because of his kind heart, generous spirit, and joyful demeanor. I was in contact with him before Hurricane Melissa struck, and since the storm passed, it has been agonizing waiting to hear from him. Thankfully, Uton and his family are alive, but their entire community has been left devastated.
Uton reached out to me and asked if I could help in any way to raise funds for the recovery of their community. This is where we need your help. The road to rebuilding is long, but every bit of support can make a difference. Whether it's a donation or simply sharing this message with your loved ones, every effort counts.
Please consider donating to the GoFundMe page we’ve set up for Uton and the people of Cascade. Together, we can help them rebuild their homes, their livelihoods, and their spirits.
May God bless you for your kindness and generosity. And may He watch over the people of Jamaica as they begin the long process of recovery.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Joseph Toth
