Every year, the University of Toronto Formula Racing (UTFR) team designs, builds, and races a fully electric, autonomous-capable formula-style race car.

This season, UTFR is competing at Formula SAE Electric in Michigan and Formula Student Germany (FSG), two of the most technically demanding and internationally respected student engineering competitions in the world. Teams from top universities across North America, Europe, and Asia bring their best designs and most refined vehicles, setting the global benchmark for engineering rigor, system integration, and innovation.

Getting there is no small feat.

Every component on our car – from suspension to the powertrain, electronics, and the driverless stack has been designed, tested, and validated by students. Most of our members spend over 30 hours per week in the shop. The result isn’t just a race car – it’s a generation of engineers trained in professional-level design, manufacturing, and systems thinking.
