Say's Salish Summer 2026: The Re - ReBOOT
I'm headed to Singapore in August for the 2026 International Va'a Federations World Sprints. After 360 miles in Puget Sound who would a thought I could sprint... well I'm not convinced follow along as I slowly try to be fast.
I'll be representing the USA in Masters 40 Women V1 in 500 meters and V6 Elite.
This is also the My Canoe club Marina Del Rey Outrigger Canoe Clubs' 5th year of Zero Waste Racing! By sorting into compost and recycle, in 4 years we have diverted more than a ton of waste from going into nature including landfills, By offering refills and encouraging paddlers to BYO, we have prevented the use of over 1000 single use plastic water bottles.
We have an average diversion rate of 72%
It is also Our Umbrella Organization SCORA's fifth year of Zero Waste Racing and through them reaching all the SCORA Clubs up and down the West Coast we have diverted more than 4 tons of waste from entering nature (including the landfills).
Thank you for your support in this ongoing journey of zero waste racing.
SALISH SEA
This June 28th, 2025, I will attempt to paddle the majority of Puget Sound AGAIN, this time in an organized race, the WA360 Race https://nwmaritime.org/nwmc-events/races-cruises/wa360/, but this time I hope to do it faster than last year. Last year I paddled 335 miles in 15 days but due to weather was not able to paddle in the San Juan’s and to Pt. Roberts. I will attempt this again on my Cantare, Outrigger Canoe.
BRAZIL
I am lucky and honored to be the USA women’s 40’s V1 Representative for the International Va'a Federations Long Distance Championships taking place this August in Brazil. I will be paddling a V1 rudderless canoe. https://www.ivfiv.org/2025-world-distance---brazil.html
I'm excited to also be racing with the V6 team representing the USA Open division, I will be the oldest in the canoe :)
On these journeys I will continue to try to raise awareness and funds to further my Zero Waste efforts in water sports, events and water bodies. The connection between a healthy human and a healthy planet is direct.
The funds raised will be put to use for these journeys and as I continue to try to be a Zero Waste Racer, Paddler and Human. In Southern California we are making our races Zero Waste affecting change and reducing our footprints at populated races all along the Southern California Coast check out SCORA's Zero Waste Website. https://www.scora.org/scora-zero-waste/
NCOCA which is representative of the Nor Cal Canoe Clubs has also made the decision to go zero waste. https://www.ncoca.com/zero-waste-initiative
I am an ambassador for 5Gyres who, through science and adventure is working to reduce the harm of plastic pollution on people and the planet. https://www.5gyres.org/
In Oregon we are cleaning a creek that has been blocked by styrofoam and treated wood from old docks for 30 years. My little company Trash Tramp's soul purpose is to help paddlers and non-paddling humans lighten their footprint on this planet. https://www.trashtramp.com/
While I metaphorically tramp around in my little canoe I hope to make a small difference in this world. If you would consider supporting me in this adventure I will be forever grateful and work that much harder to reduce waste. Please stay tuned, I'll make updates as my plans come to fruition.
