" Jahi (Producer/“Thomas”) and I attended the same film school but we also share a common pain - we both lost our mothers in the same year due to cancer. As Black men, our mothers were a strong source of emotional support and inspiration for us to become the men we are today. Their sacrifices mean everything to us. Jahi approached me with the story, and I was immediately inspired to help develop the script to capture the
challenging emotions of dealing with such a profound loss. Furthermore, as Black men, we naturally have a hard time being vulnerable. All this motivated me to wonder: How can we show Thomas being vulnerable while he tries to hide this vulnerability after losing his mother? This short film uses concise storytelling and surrealism to achieve this. To date, this is the most important story I have to tell.” - Omar Derby
