I reach out to you today with a heavy heart, as I share the plight of my beloved family in Gaza.
My name is Hakam Albalawi, and I am humbly seeking your support in a fundraising effort aimed at evacuating my family from the escalating turmoil in Gaza. Our goal is to raise 60,000 € to facilitate their safe passage to a place of refuge.
Imagine the anguish of being displaced not once, but thrice, from the safety of our homes due to relentless attacks on innocent civilians like my family. My parents, Majeda and Bakir, along with my siblings - Nour, Leena, Ahmed, and my brother Mohammed and his family - Hala (his wife) and their three children, Bakir, Dana, and Misk, have endured unimaginable hardship. Forced to flee from the North to the South of Gaza, they now find themselves seeking sanctuary in Rafah, longing for safety and stability.
Once proud owners of a thriving pharmacy, my family's livelihood has been shattered by the ravages of conflict. Their once bustling business now lies in ruins, leaving them bereft of income and struggling to make ends meet. Homes, cars, and dreams - all lost in the chaos, leaving behind only despair and uncertainty.
With the generous help of my sister, Rawan Albalawi, who holds Australian citizenship, visas have been secured for our ten family members. However, the journey to safety remains fraught with obstacles, particularly the daunting task of crossing the Rafah border to Egypt. Your support is vital in ensuring their safe passage to Australia, where they can rebuild their shattered lives.
The recent communication from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, denying government assistance based on technicalities, has left us reeling. Our family, including a newborn born amidst the chaos, is struggling to access basic necessities like diapers, formula, and clean water. My mother's deteriorating health further compounds our anguish, as she requires specialized care and a nutritious diet, now scarce in war-torn Gaza.
The situation in Gaza grows more dire with each passing day, leaving us with no choice but to turn to our global community for help. Your generosity can make a world of difference in easing the burden on my family and ensuring their safety amidst the chaos.
We seek 60,000€ to cover the costs of evacuation, including transportation expenses, visa fees, and airfare to Australia. Your contributions, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to reuniting our family and restoring hope in the face of adversity.
