Hello, my name is Lucas, and I am creating this fundraiser for myself and my family.
Unfortunately, I was laid off in July from Butterfly Network after having survived two rounds of previous layoffs. The job market is tough at the moment, especially for jobs in the tech sector. I have skills as a Quality Assurance Engineer and Scrum Master.
Since the layoff, I have applied to over 450 positions and have revised my resume dozens of times, including paying a professional to rewrite it. I have gotten very few interviews; although the ones that interviewed me would have loved to hire me, in the end, I wasn’t offered the position for reasons outside of their control or mine.
This brings us to today. I was the sole income provider for my family of four, as my wife is disabled and unable to work. My youngest has a disability and requires a lot of attention, so it worked out to have her home anyways to make sure he is well cared for. The severance is going to run out at the beginning of October, and the unemployment insurance I receive leaves us $900 short each month for bills alone. I am still working diligently everyday applying for positions and responding to various recruiters and emails, but we desperately need help.
Over the last few years, we have been struggling with increases in medical costs for my 6 year old as well as my wife and myself. It’s been difficult but we've been trying to recover financially. Last year we finally paid off all of our debts outside of a car payment and had just started saving in January. As everyone knows, prices for things just keep going up and rent went from $1400 to $2100 in just 3 years here, so we didn't have a lot saved when the layoff came.
We have cancelled every membership and subscription since July, have been extremely diligent with our spending, and have saved every penny we have; however, we are still short $500 for bills in October and that isn't including food for the next few weeks. We have been using food shelves and any other resources for low income, but it is getting to the point where we are skipping meals so the boys can eat. They are 6 and 11 and luckily now that school has started they get their lunches free there, but when they come back they are ravenous.
Unfortunately, we don't qualify for a lot of help due to having a high income for the year. Even though I am not making that money now, my previous salary has put us over the income caps for most programs.
I never thought it would come to this, but I’m now at the point where I have no other choice but to ask for help. This money would extend my runway through the end of December, maybe help buy a few small gifts for the boys for Christmas and keep us all fed. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
My resume is available upon request as well. I truly just want to get back to work and support my family as best as I can.
