My name is Alba, and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. On October 21st 2025, my father passed away from Alzheimer’s. Watching him slowly fade over the years was heartbreaking, and as his condition worsened, our home, finances, and daily life fell into survival mode.

Now, after his passing, all of the weight has fallen on me.

My mother is disabled and has multiple health conditions

She relies on expensive medication, daily care, and ongoing treatments. She is unable to work, and my father’s Social Security income was what kept our household stable. Losing that income has left us struggling in ways we weren’t prepared for.

Our home is from the 1800s and has suffered years of neglect while caring for my dad

During his illness, every dollar and every bit of energy went toward his care. Our home — which is very old — has serious issues that need urgent attention:

• Repairs that were postponed for years

• Structural and safety updates

• Basic maintenance we couldn’t afford during his decline

I am the only one working right now

I am doing everything I can, but my income alone is not enough to cover:

• Medication and medical necessities for my mom

• Household bills

• Repairs to make the home safe and livable

• Monthly expenses now that we’ve lost my father’s income

Why I’m asking for help

This isn’t something I ever imagined needing to do. But my father was the provider, and with his passing, the financial gap hit us immediately. I am trying to keep our home stable for my mother while grieving his loss myself.
