Support Ursy, Liz, and the girls after car accident

Hello, my name is Ariel. I am writing this GoFundMe on behalf of two of my older sisters, Ursy and Liz, and my nieces, Presley and Penelope.

On October 31, my sister Ursy’s ex-husband was scheduled to pick up their daughters, Presley (9) and Penelope (6), from school. He drives a 2007 Ford Ranger, which has been on its last leg for a few years. Knowing this, my other sister, Liz, loaned him her car so he could safely transport the girls.

Unbeknownst to us, he had been drinking heavily before picking them up and was extremely intoxicated. After picking up the girls, he lost control of the car while traveling west on Barbur St. He clipped the curb, overcorrected, and collided with a utility pole before spinning into oncoming traffic and hitting a food truck. All airbags deployed. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown into the passenger seat, unconscious. Presley bravely searched for his phone and managed to call for help. The car was totaled, its front end destroyed.

At the hospital, doctors found that Ursy’s ex-husband had a BAC more than five times the legal limit in Oregon. Presley and Penelope sustained deep bruising, cuts, and are now dealing with the trauma of the accident. Presley required a CT scan due to blood in her urine, and she continues to experience abdominal pain and soreness. Medical expenses are already over $13,000, and we hope to also provide the girls with trauma counseling to help them work through the experience.

Liz was only a few months away from paying off her car, which was crucial for helping Ursy get the girls to school and other extracurricular activities. Liz has been a constant support for her nieces, waking up early to get them ready for school while Ursy works night shifts. Part of the funds raised would go toward replacing Liz’s car so she can continue supporting Ursy and the girls.

Since the accident, Ursy has gained sole custody of Presley and Penelope, which has meant taking on full responsibility for their well-being. The collision forced her to take an unpaid week off work to care for her children, adding to the financial strain.

We are reaching out in hopes of easing some of the burdens left in the wake of this traumatic event.
