Urijah David Redhawk Potter came into this world on December 23, 2023 at 05:22am. His Momma had some scares during her pregnancy, and even had to have an emergency C-Section after being induced, because he wasn’t in a great position for a natural birth, and had a knot in his umbilical cord. Kailee and Cody (Urijahs parents), have been on high alert since his birth. It’s natural to worry in your baby’s first year of life, especially, but with the medical issues they’d encountered, that fear was only heightened. As the end of September rolled around, Urijah had been acting pretty fussy. With the changing of seasons, and teething, a fussy 9 month old, usually isn’t too much to worry about. But as parents, we KNOW our babies. We KNOW when something isn’t quite right. Urijah had been seen by doctors, FIVE SEPARATE TIMES, in less than two weeks time, before someone finally realized this was more than constipation and gas. Each doctor before this, believed it to be teething, constipation, gas pains, etc. They advised rest, fluids and Miralax, and assured his parents not to worry. Luckily, Urijah’s parents went with their guts and didn’t give up. They demanded something be done. The morning of this last trip to the ER, this little pro-crawler was dragging his body across the bed to his Momma. He was miserable, and his belly had become so swollen from the bloating, that his belly button was popping out. Kailee couldn’t bear to watch her son, a normally happy, goofy baby boy, be so weak and uncomfortable. As parents, we sometimes have to go to war for our children. Sometimes, the cards we are dealt simply aren’t fair.
On October 13th, Urijah was air flighted to UC Davis for further evaluation. A CT scan revealed a large tumor above his kidneys, pushing down on his intestines, which had caused the severe constipation. They also found a clot in his lungs, and traces of this cancerous tumor in his lungs, liver and kidneys. His organs aren’t currently functioning correctly, and the drs are still trying to figure out what type of cancer he has, so they can figure out what comes next.
Urijah’s parents also have two young children back at home. Their truck is currently in Southern Oregon, out of use, from a recent accident. So, they have no way of getting wood, for their home to be warm in the winter. And, as you can imagine, at $18 a day for parking at a hospital, along with quick food (being as they don’t have a pantry or kitchen to prepare meals), money is very tight. Neither parent is working right now, as there is no way to fathom leaving Urijah’s side. Medical bills will be racking up and winter is fast approaching.
To see your helpless child wheeled into a hospital room, hooked up to monitors, sedated, intubated, breathing & feeding tubes, and a tube to drain their wound - is simply indescribable. But to have to worry about how to survive and take care of your other children on top of that? It’s too much for a family to take up on their own.
So, please - if you are able to- a donation of any size would help. If you aren’t able to donate, please share this GoFundMe. Help us get the word out! Ask your Creator to bless Urijah and his family and watch over them. Every kindness is a donation ~ even if only a prayer!
**If anyone has wood to donate ~ please reach out to me, as well!**
Urijah’s parents also have Venmo & Cashapp, as well, for those of you wanting to donate another way!
Thank you to everyone supporting this family! Your kindness is very appreciated! We are so grateful to have such a supportive team backing up this little guy!
