Hi everyone,
I hate asking for help, but I wanted to share what’s been going on and why I’m reaching out.
Last year, as many of you know, I unexpectedly lost my job. Unfortunately, I never recovered financially during that time and did not receive unemployment. While we were trying to stay afloat, a slow leak developed in our guest bathroom, causing significant water damage. Insurance did cover the remediation, but because I was behind on the mortgage at the time, the bank refused to endorse the insurance check for repairs and instead applied it toward the loan balance. As a result, the bathroom was never repaired, leaving us with only one functioning bathroom. Shortly after that, the insurance company dropped our coverage altogether.
I continued applying for jobs and was finally rehired in December. Since then, however, Tessia has had multiple hospital stays due to her epilepsy, which has added both emotional and financial strain.
Yesterday, after checking on some stray kittens and leaving food for them, we came home and I noticed a box near the vanity in our master bathroom was wet. That’s when I saw the vanity itself had warped and swollen from water damage. After removing everything from underneath, the inside of the cabinet appeared dry, but we still cannot locate the source of the leak. I immediately shut off the water to the sinks, but we now need a plumber to find the leak. The cost to diagnose it alone is $650, not including any repairs or remediation. I have contacted our current insurance company, but we are waiting for a claim adjuster, with no clear timeline.
I am currently in the process of trying to sell this house, and now we are facing the possibility of having both bathrooms unusable. The funds I am hoping to raise will go directly toward repairing the guest bathroom and addressing the water damage in the master bathroom. I already have a licensed contractor’s quote for the guest bath and will be using the same contractor to assess and repair the vanity and flooring in the master bath.
Mold is a serious concern, especially given Tessia’s epilepsy, as it can worsen her condition. These repairs are necessary not only for our health and safety but also to make the house sellable. The funds raised will strictly go toward essential repairs—nothing cosmetic or unnecessary.
If you feel inclined to help, I’ve started a GoFundMe to cover these costs. Even sharing the link means more than you know.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, supporting, and caring.
