Urban Montessori Charter School is the ONLY tuition-free public Montessori charter school in Oakland. We offer an educational model typically only accessible to families with the means to pay for high-cost tuition (typically between $12,000 and $18,000 per year in CA). Our school stands out for its innovative and equitable approach to education. We offer the Montessori method, emphasizing student independence, hands-on learning, mixed-age classrooms, and a prepared environment supporting exploration and choice for all. This method is rare in public charter schools.

Our all-inclusive model is especially welcoming for our neurodivergent students and students from historically underserved and vulnerable communities facing significant socio-economic disparities.

This school year is ending with a heavy heart — our beloved school will be sunsetting this June 2025. While our doors may be shutting, our commitment to our school community is not; we want to give our amazing students a celebration send-off they'll never forget.
