It starts with an idea...

Over 3 years ago, I really started thinking about my future and wanting my own brick and mortar business. I determined that I wanted a cafe/coffeeshop and started formulating an idea in my head. With my experience in graphic design I crafted a logo (based off my dog Arlo) and shortly after a name ("UP DOG"). Lastly, I needed a location. I looked out for potential places around the neighborhood I was already working in and eventually saw a lot down the street that had an old stand-alone shack. It was perfect and I saw the potential in the property. I inquired services and tried to find the owner, but didn't get anywhere. A year passed by and while at work, a man introduced himself saying that he bought a property down the street with an old building. Hearing this, my interest peaked. He elaborated and confirmed that it was the very same property I was interested in. The owner said that he was trying to figure out a use for it and I wasted no time telling him my story and my vision for it. Turns out, That shack is actually the oldest standing gas station in Los Angeles with ties to Route 66. Circle back to today, with the help of my business partner, and the property owner, we're in the middle of construction and hoping to have our soft opening in November with a full opening in December to early January. How amazing how things come back around.

With your support, you can ensure that we start with a best foot forward in bringing something truly special and unique to the city of Eagle Rock.

The vision: Our shop is called "UP DOG". It's a cafe and event space nestled in the great city of Eagle Rock CA. Featuring an historic Route 66 gas station (in which we serve guests out of and brew coffee), a big back patio to lounge, and a modular /out-door concept for various events.

Owners: Joe Snipes and Austen Young.

Joe: Business visionary. Pasadena native who has served the great people of Eagle Rock for over 10 years at a local mom and pop. I studied graphic design at Pasadena City College's Center for the Arts. I hope to bring out my ideas and create an inviting space to the community.

Austen: Event Coordinator. Detroit native who graduated Western Michigan University with a degree in Business management. Avid coffee lover, who has lived in the Eagle Rock area for 3 years. Developed a love and fascination with the Eagle Rock area and excited to contribute to the area.
