As a first-year Special Education teacher at Union Ave Elementary School, I work with a class of 13 incredible students in grades 2, 3, and 4. My journey into teaching was shaped by my own experience with ADHD, as well as supporting family members with Dyslexia. Before becoming a teacher, I worked as an afterschool coordinator at a shelter for families experiencing homelessness. Many of the students I supported had IEPs and struggled with reading, which inspired me to return to school and earn my teaching credential in Special Education from Cal State LA.
Since stepping into my own classroom, I’ve been committed to creating a supportive and engaging environment for my students. Over the past few months, I have personally purchased a variety of materials to help my students thrive. These include sensory and calming tools to help them focus, organizational supports to create structure, and educational games to make learning interactive. With these resources, I’ve seen my students become more able to focus and participate, and I am better equipped to meet their unique learning needs each day.
Your support will help replenish the resources I’ve provided and ensure that every student in my classroom has what they need to succeed. Every contribution makes a difference in helping these young learners feel valued, supported, and ready to learn.
Below is a spreadsheet of the purchases I have made to support my classroom. Any funding above what I have already spent will be used to purchase future classroom resources. Spreadsheet of classroom purchases
