Throughout my life, my Uncle Paul (my Dad’s brother) has always been such a fun and outgoing presence. A smiling jokester, goofy and kind, but fiercely loyal to his friends and family. Paul has always had a love for music and grew up playing guitar. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and has endless stories from his travels that have kept us entertained for years.

Unfortunately, in 2015, my uncle Paul was diagnosed with early onset dementia (at only 63 years of age); a horrific disease that acts to take the most precious things from him, his brain and memory; completely interfering and changing his daily life.

Paul’s dementia has progressed over the last 9 years, causing my uncle and his incredibly supportive family (my Aunt Jeanie and cousins Chrissy and Megan) more heartbreak than one family should ever experience. In the last year, the progression became more rapid, recently landing my uncle in a memory care housing facility for the safety of himself, his family, and the community.

I am hoping to raise this money to keep my aunt and cousins afloat while awaiting approval for Medicaid’s financial assistance.

The funds donated will be directly used to help my family pay for the astronomical costs for care of an advancing dementia patient. This includes:

• Housing at a dementia care unit

• Medicaid application costs

• Costs related to hiring and paying a lawyer

• Court fees and legal fees
