Uncle Matt is a caring and fun-loving northern Minnesotan—a dedicated partner, dog dad, brother, uncle, co-worker, and friend to many. He has always been there for his loved ones, bringing joy and support to everyone around him. Now, he is facing one of the toughest challenges of his life.

Earlier this summer, Matt began experiencing extreme fatigue and tiredness, which led to a series of medical tests. After hundreds of needle pokes and several bone marrow biopsies, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone marrow cancer called Primary Myelofibrosis. While this cancer is sometimes curable and often treatable, it can also be terminal if it doesn’t respond to treatment. Because Matt is almost 68 years old, he has one chance at this. His treatment will be a long and difficult journey, starting with a chemo pill to shrink his spleen, followed by more aggressive chemotherapy to completely wipe out his immune system in preparation for a bone marrow transplant. The transplant process will require at least a month-long stay at Fargo Sanford Hospital/Roger Maris Cancer Center, and after discharge, Matt will need to stay nearby in Fargo with a 24/7 caregiver for at least one hundred days. Family and friends will be stepping in to help, but the logistics and costs are significant.
