Purpose: Hindu YUVA (Youth for Unity, Virtues, and Action) is a socio-cultural organization that aims to preserve and protect Hinduism by providing a safe space for youth on campus to embrace their heritage. We strive to create opportunities for college students to participate better and understand Hindu culture and traditions. To achieve our goals, we conduct weekly meetings open to all, guest lectures, discussions, workshops, festival celebrations, and service activities to assist the local communities.
Hindu YUVA as an organization takes great pride in being the annual host of Diwali Night, a celebration of the Indian Festival of Lights that embraces new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, thereby illuminating our community with positivity. Our main priority this year is to ensure the facilitation of a safe celebration that encompasses the beliefs of our community and embraces the traditional culture of Hinduism through music and dance. Diwali Night at UNC is a completely sold-out event attended by over 600 guests from all over the Research Triangle Park area. This year, Diwali Night will be conducted on November 8th, 2024 from approximately 5:30 pm to 11 pm in the Great Hall at the Student Union.
With the help of our special performer's acapella performance, we aim to garner interest from people from diverse backgrounds and enrich the South Asian experience for students on UNC’s campus by giving them the platform to engage with South Asian culture. By supporting the idea of “unity in diversity”, we believe their acapella performance would encourage diverse perspectives in mainstream South Asian music to be put out when connecting with the audience in a safe environment. In addition, we will have dance performances from UNC’s South Asian Dance Teams: Bhangra Elite, Chalkaa, Raas, and Ek Taal. With the last few years challenging for the TarHeel community, we hope Diwali Night will be a great opportunity for students and professors to engage and dive into the diverse cultures and celebrations UNC offers. We hope to make people aware of South Asian Culture, especially on a much larger scale considering the success of our last Diwali Night. Similar to previous years, we expect to have over 600 attendees and will be grateful for any financial assistance that can help us host an eventful celebration of Diwali while improving the overall wellness of our community as we head into 2024 and beyond.
We are seeking $3000+ in fundraising to cover the cost of expenditures such as performance fees, venue rental, equipment rental, decorations, miscellaneous items, etc.
