My name is Tyler, and I am a deaf Latinx queer graduate student at Gallaudet University studying International Development. As part of my final semester, I’ve been offered an internship with United Hands Organization in New York City. United Hands serves the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and hard-of-hearing communities through vital programs, including the Wellness Center, Vocational Training, and Social Services. This presents a significant opportunity for me to serve the community and work towards bridging the gaps in areas such as healthcare, employment, education, and other key areas that are crucial for these communities.
My career goal is to create a more inclusive, accessible, and innovative world for everyone. I want to help create spaces and opportunities where everyone can thrive regardless of unique identities, backgrounds, and abilities.
While I’m eager to get started, due to limited funding from Gallaudet University and high housing and food costs, I need to raise funds to make this internship experience a reality.
That’s why I’m reaching out for support from friends and family. I will post updates about what I am learning on either a blog or a YouTube channel, which I am excited to share. Thank you in advance for your consideration—please pass this along to anyone who might be interested in supporting my journey.
