Hello, my name is Tyra,
On the 3rd of August 2025, I had my first ever seizure completely out of nowhere. I was sitting on the sofa watching TV and on my phone when all of a sudden, I experienced pins and needles/tingling in my left leg before it went completely numb within seconds. Then, about 5 seconds later, I was out cold, and the next time I came to, I was on the floor laying down with my husband in front of me on the phone to 911.
I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, and at the hospital, I experienced a second seizure. The hospital conducted a CT scan of my head and chest but was unable to find the cause. They monitored me for a few hours and discharged me with some medication, suggesting I see a neurologist. Two days later, on the 5th of August 2025, I experienced yet another seizure. Once again, I was taken to the hospital, but this time I was kept in for further testing and monitoring.
I was kept in the hospital until the evening of the 8th of August 2025. During my stay, I experienced three more seizures, totaling five seizures in six days. The hospital conducted a series of tests, including MRIs, an MRV, an EEG, an ultrasound, a lumbar puncture, and multiple blood and urine tests. Thankfully, all tests came back clean/negative, and I was given the diagnosis of pseudo-seizures.
Pseudo-seizures, also called Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES), are seizures caused by:
- Trauma
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Emotional distress
- Dissociative disorders
I am starting this GoFundMe because the medical bills for all of this treatment are extremely high, and I would appreciate any help in reducing the costs to help stop stress and anxiety to prevent any further seizures. Fortunately, I do have medical insurance; however, I have not yet reached my deductible and out-of-pocket maximum.
Any money donated would be used to pay off any and all medical bills that have occurred from these seizures, and if there is any money leftover once everything has been paid, the rest will go to improving mental health and other bills.
This new diagnosis has majorly impacted my life so far as it has made me have to re-adapt to a lot of things as I believe I have some minor PTSD from the events. Doing what were simple things now makes me paranoid and anxious. As most of my seizures woke me up from sleeping, I now find going to sleep quite hard and I wake up multiple times a night. Being in a room alone terrifies me at the moment as if I experience my telling aura (the pins and needles) that I am going to have a seizure, I only have a few seconds before I pass out to either get help or get to a safe place.
I appreciate anyone taking the time to read my story and will be very thankful and grateful for any donations/help that I may receive.
