Support Tyler’s brain tumour treatment

Hi, my name is Sarah, I am fundraising for my best friend’s partner, Tyler Mateos.

Tyler is a 29 year old and his partner, Naoíse is my best friend. Together they have an 18 month old son, Tadhg. In April of 2024, a few days after returning home from his first family holiday with Naoíse and his little lad, Tyler started feeling off. He was getting headaches and dizziness, he couldn’t sleep. He was brought in to A&E in Galway by ambulance after collapsing at work. The doctors told him it was vertigo and sent him home that day but Tyler and Naoíse knew there was something wrong. The following day they went to see his GP and he suggested an MRI. Instead of waiting months on the public system and because they didn’t have health insurance, Tyler and Naoíse managed to pay to get a private MRI done. It was then that they found out that Tyler has a primary brain tumour in his hippocampus. Now, months on from his initial diagnosis, Tyler doesn’t really have much more information. Unfortunately due to the Irish public healthcare system, Tyler is sitting on waiting lists, waiting for scans and consultations.

Tyler is unable to work as he suffers daily from headaches, extreme tiredness, and weakness. He suffers from seizures and it is almost impossible to know when the next one is going to happen. Tyler and Naoíse managed to pay for an MRI scan, an appointment with the neurosurgeon and an appointment with a neurologist. Going private is so much quicker but they just can’t afford it. Tyler is currently on an 18 month public waiting list to see a neurologist in Beaumont, compared to a 4 month wait if they were to go privately. They would love for him to be seen quicker, for him to get the scans, the biopsy and the surgery that he needs quicker. Travelling to and from Beaumont alone costs a lot. Tyler and Naoíse have tried to hold off on asking for help but they would really appreciate any help they can get right now. They have an 18 month old baby boy who doesn’t understand why Daddy needs to lie down or why Daddy isn’t home because he’s in the hospital again. Tadhg just wants his Daddy to get better so he can play with him and see him grow up.

Travel costs to and from Beaumont,

Living expenses.
