Support Tyler St. Clair's Hospital Recovery

Donation protected
My name is Katie Cover (Mitchell) and I'm helping to raise these funds to support Tyler St. Clair and his family during this extremely difficult time. Anyone who knows Tyler, Emmy, Lexi and their family, knows that they are the most thoughtful, kind, loving and inclusive family to all. Please consider donating to this gofundme to help support them while Tyler remains in the hospital after being shot twice while working downtown at his job.

On the evening of November 7th Tyler was shot while working at a downtown night club. He has been in the surgical ICU since then at HCMC.
He is a real fighter and has been able to get off the ventilator and overcome so many obstacles we never could have imagined! Currently he still needs help with his kidneys; so is on dialysis and is working hard on physical therapy to teach almost his entire body how to work again. Being on a ventilator for basically three weeks really weakens a body in many ways. Not to mention the trauma done by the bullet along with so many surgeries. There are lots of other tubes going in and out of his body so there is still a lot of healing. So far he has endured 7 surgeries and has at least one more to go.

One surgery was to put a plate and screws in his arm where a bullet broke a bone. The other 6 surgeries were on his torso. The bullet sliced through his ICV (the main vein bringing blood back to the heart) and the was just millimeters from his Aorta, a major artery. If the bullet would have sliced both, it would have been almost immediately fatal without doubt. They have many times worked on his intestines, colon, and completely flushed his torso. Unfortunately just 15 hours after they thought he was in the clear (about 1.5 weeks in) his intestines came apart due to trauma from the bullet causing his entire body to become septic. Along with many other complications to follow. But you know Tyler- he fought hard to get to where he is today, and the fight continues.

The staff at HCMC has been excellent. Because his condition requires so much constant attention he has a nurse dedicated to helping just him one on one day and night.

The road ahead is going to be a long one. There will be weeks, if not months, of occupational therapy and physical therapy.

Emmy is an excellent patient advocate for him and has been at his side continuously, all day and night, since the ambulance brought him in. Lexi has had a hard time seeing her Daddy, her superman, on a ventilator and the continuous attempts to be put in a medically induced coma. While he was constantly fighting the sedation, a coma was the goal medically for healing and to get him through the intense surgeries he had to endure. Being 16 years old is challenging in and of itself, but to have her Dad in such life threatening critical condition and her Mom living at the hospital, made things extremely difficult. She has been living with her grandma and grandpa and has had Emmy’s close family/friends help out a lot, which is beyond amazing.

This has also been hard on Tyler's Mom, Penny, and all his relatives.
We all have felt completely helpless but now there is hope!

Since it was gun shot wounds and he is in ICU, visitors are limited to very close friends/immediate family. As soon as he is moved to a Medical Surgical unit he will enjoy short visits from friends, family and co-workers. We will post when he moves and is ready for other visitors!

If you would like to contribute to his Go Fund Me page it would be very much appreciated. He will be out of work for quite awhile and getting through this currently has no timeline or estimate due to such intense injuries and going to be needing so much physical/occupational therapy. Emmy had to take an immediate leave of absence from her job until further notice. If you can't contribute - no problem. Please keep Tyler and his family in your thoughts. Send prayers, good wishes, light and love their way.

Thank you
