Tyler Hughes is exactly the type of person we need teaching our young people in Oakland. Born and raised in Oakland, he has worked for OUSD for the past 7 years - at both Chabot and Emerson Elementary Schools as a Yard Coach, Instructional Support Specialist and the Facilitator for both schools' African American Male Achievement programs. This year, he took time off of full-time work to obtain his teaching credential and has secured a job as a fourth-grade teacher at Sankofa in OUSD!
Unfortunately, some of the grant funding Tyler was counting on to support his family while he obtained this credential has fallen through and he is now in a position where he needs the support of the Oakland OUSD community to help make ends meet between now and that first teacher paycheck.
All contributions will be used to support Tyler's family and his new classroom!
Please consider helping put an amazing Black educator in front of Oakland's children.
