Together We Educationally Empower Non-privileged Students (TWEENS) is a program dedicated to supporting refugee youth in the Tongogara Refugee Settlement. Backed by Education Matters’ mission to connect talent with opportunity, TWEENS is a refugee-led peer tutoring initiative focused on empowering young people through education and mentorship. The program was launched during the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020 as a service learning project by A-Level students from Education Matters’ USAP Community School, who began providing peer tutoring to fellow refugees. Since then, TWEENS has grown into a vital resource for the community, offering academic support and mentorship to students who need it most.
Today, the TWEENS Advisory Council is coming together to raise internal funds to support the program’s ongoing efforts on the ground. These funds are essential to keep the initiative running, ensuring that refugee youth continue to have access to quality education and guidance. The money raised will go directly toward covering operational costs and providing stipends for the dedicated teachers who lead and mentor the students. By supporting TWEENS, you are helping to sustain a program that empowers refugee youth to reach their full potential, even in the face of significant challenges.
