Ansley's Plea: Aid for Mom's ICU Battle

My mother, Twauna, is currently fighting for her life in the ICU after a sudden and severe decline in her health. I received a call from my elderly grandmother (June 19th) as she voiced concerns about my mother’s wellbeing as she was not answering her phone and was making loud vocalizations from her downstairs room. When I arrived, I found my mom in a critical state and immediately called an ambulance. She was rushed to Kennestone Hospital, where her blood pressure was dangerously low. After initial testing, her condition was so serious that she was airlifted to Atlanta for further treatment.

She continues to be on life support as she has been placed in a medically induced coma. At this time, treatment is still ongoing for kidney failure, she has been diagnosed with AML (leukemia), is battling respiratory distress with possible pneumonia and has started chemo treatments as of 6/26. 

My mom does not have health insurance, which means every aspect of her care—from emergency treatment to ongoing testing and recovery—comes with significant out-of-pocket costs. As her only daughter, I am working two jobs while also being her primary caregiver, traveling back and forth to Atlanta to be by her side as much as possible. The financial strain is overwhelming, especially as my mom is unable to work or make decisions for herself right now. I am her voice and her advocate during this incredibly difficult time.

Twauna is a caring woman who has always put others first. Now, she needs help from our community to cover her medical bills, support her recovery, and ease the burden of this life-changing event. Any support will help us focus on her healing and reduce the stress she will face once she is able to leave the ICU.
