Help My Uncle Troy Get the Eye Treatment He Urgently Needs.
My family and I are reaching out for support for my Uncle, Troy, who is facing a serious and frightening medical challenge with his eyes.
March 13, 2024, on his 50th birthday, Troy suddenly woke up to a world that looked blurry and distorted. Overnight, his vision became fuzzy, and since then, he has been fighting to understand why. Doctors believe it is optic neuritis—damage to the optic nerves in both eyes—but after extensive testing, no one can determine what caused it.
The VA has not covered outside specialist visits, leaving Troy to pay out-of-pocket for every appointment, including travel, testing, and lodging. He even went to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where specialists ruled out MS, cancer, diabetes, and several other conditions. One Mayo Clinic doctor recommended the SAVIR Center in Germany, explaining that while it is not a cure, their treatment may help stimulate inactive optic nerves and potentially improve vision. They also advised him to avoid stem cell treatments.
After exhausting every option here at home, Troy was blessed to find this specialist in Germany who may be able to save—and possibly restore—his sight. But the cost is overwhelming. The consultation alone is $10,000, and that does not include treatment or the follow-up care he will need. Payment is required before Christmas, and Troy is scheduled to travel on January 26th.
This year has already brought Troy more hardship than anyone should have to face. Work has slowed, his vehicles have broken down repeatedly, and just when things start to improve, another setback hits. Still, he keeps going. Still, he stays hopeful.
That’s who Troy is.
A man who shows up for others—even when he’s struggling himself.
Troy proudly served 14 years in the military:
• U.S. Navy from 1994–1998
• Army National Guard from 2001–2011
He has always put others first. Now, he’s the one who needs help.
We are asking for any support—big or small—to help him get to Germany for the medical care that could truly change his life. Every donation will go directly toward:
• Medical consultation and treatment
• Travel expenses
• Follow-up care afterward
If you can not donate, please consider sharing his story. Every share helps bring Troy one step closer to healing and to the hope of restored vision.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, for caring, and for standing with our family during this difficult and uncertain time.
With love and gratitude,
