April 10: Tristan passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 6.
Thank you all for your generous support through this tragic process! There will be a Aptos memorial service for Tristan on Easter weekend. If you are interested in attending and have not received any information, please feel free to reach out to me here.
Tristan has been diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma, an aggressive malignant brain tumor. Over a period of 48-hours our world turned upside down as he went from a mountain biking dad to becoming highly reliant on friends and family for daily support. The tumor is located on his Thalamus, a structure that relays critical information regarding memory, cognition, and sleep among others. Because of its location and size, the Stanford medical team has decided that his case is not a candidate for surgery.
Tristan’s support team is being led by his wonderful wife Rachael, myself, and his two teenage boys who are now in high school and college. Rachael works full-time in the public school system and the boys are pursuing academic ambitions through this crushing event.
Next week we will be starting down a path of daily radiation and chemotherapy. During this treatment, his ability to travel and care for himself will be highly impacted.
This type of cancer mutates very rapidly and prognoses is determined based on his response to the treatment.
Contributions will be used to support Tristan and his family with the many sudden expenses that have arisen now that he is sick. This includes an in-home assistant (as he needs constant observation), meal prep, and transportation needs for his sons to get to their summer jobs. Thank you all who have reached out already. I will continue to provide updates on this page.
