Help Our Mom Fight Breast Cancer

For 45 years, our mom, Trish Shaffery, has proudly called Barnegat home. She raised the three of us boys here as a single mother, and if you know her, you know she is the definition of strength, selflessness, and unconditional love.

Now, she needs help.

Our mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. In the coming weeks, she will undergo a double mastectomy, lymph node removal, followed by radiation and chemotherapy. It’s overwhelming, it’s scary, and it’s happening fast.

She has spent her entire life taking care of everyone else. As a single parent, she worked multiple jobs in the service industry to make sure we never went without. Even when money was tight, she found ways to give. She volunteered as an EMT for our town, helped neighbors without hesitation, and has always donated and advocated for animals in need. She lives by one simple rule: always pay it forward.

She never asks for help — ever. But right now, she truly needs it.

Because she works in the service industry, she will be out of work for 8–12 weeks without pay while she recovers from surgery and begins treatment. During this time, the medical bills will continue to grow, and she will also need help covering transportation to and from doctor appointments, treatments, and basic living expenses.

As her three sons, it’s incredibly hard to watch the strongest woman we know face something like this. She is our best friend, our role model, and the heart of our family. She deserves to focus on healing — not worrying about how the bills will get paid.
