Hi everyone,

My name is Trinity, and I am a junior political science major, philosophy and legal communications double minor on the pre-law track at Howard University. I have been blessed with an incredible opportunity to attend the Johns Hopkins SAIS Summer Academy in Bologna, Italy! SAIS Summer Academy is an academic program focused on global policy, democracy, and international justice. This experience would allow me to study how legal systems and governments operate across different countries while obtaining graduate level credits.

I am incredibly passionate about juvenile justice and observing how the current governmental and carceral systems shape the outcome of youth, especially youth of color. Through this program, I will study how democracies are formed while gaining a deeper understanding of organized crime in Italy to broaden my understanding of justice systems globally. This program would allow to continue to pursue a career where I can advocate for more equitable systems not just in the U.S., but globally.

At Howard, I’ve worked hard to stay committed to that goal. Through my matriculation, I have maintained a 3.93 GPA as a three-time Dean’s List student while being actively involved in organizations like the Black Women in Pre-Law Society, Political Science Society, Precious Pearls Youth Outreach, and Beacon Liturgical Dance Ministry. I’ve also worked every semester to help cover my expenses.

Despite these efforts, studying abroad is still financially out of reach. My education is currently funded through scholarships, loans, and the continued support of my family. Our resources are focused on covering tuition and living expenses, leaving little room for opportunities like this.
