Hi! Tree here. I feel kinda silly coming to y’all for a luxury rather than a need, but this is the only way I can imagine being able to generate enough funds under our time restraints, so here goes:
I haven’t been very public about this for a number of reasons, but my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer last May. She did chemo and had major surgery to remove as much as they could. She was briefly considered NED (no evidence of disease), but it’s back and the prognosis is not good. She was given a year to live back in July, meaning it is very unlikely that she will make it to my wedding next fall.
In classic Mary fashion, she’s been living it up to the best of her ability with the time she has left, recently returning from a trip to Europe and planning her own living funeral- because she doesn’t want to miss out on all the festivities.
This week she told me that she, my brother, and his partner had been discussing spending Christmas somewhere warm like Mexico and invited me and Ty to join them. We obviously would love nothing more than to spend this very important Christmas season with her somewhere beautiful, but we also juuuust bought a house and are planning a wedding. To say things are tight is an understatement.
So, we are turning to our community and asking for help. Ty has never been out of the country and (although I went to Canada twice as a child) essentially neither have I, so some of the expenses we are asking for assistance in covering include:
- Cost of passports
- Flights
- Resort stay
- Wheelchair accessible transportation to and from the hotel/airport
- Lost wages from time off of work
