Our first few weeks of parent life were nothing close to what we expected. Two days after we brought Des home, he started to have mini-seizures and thankfully our pediatrician caught them at his first visit. She recommended we take him to CHOP, and we ended up spending almost two weeks there as we figured out what was going on with him. We're back home thanks to the incredible people at CHOP and the amazing care they provided.
Despite many tears, long days, and the lowest of lows that we never thought we could feel, each day a different team would put together a new piece of the puzzle that brought us one step closer to going home. Des is nursing AND bottle-feeding like a champ now! We are finally back home with our little dude where we all belong and, most importantly, know that he is safe and has a clear road to recovery.
This experience made us reflect on how fortunate we are to be 20 minutes away from arguably the best children's hospital in the entire country. We've read stories of the journeys people take from around the world to get here and met several parents who traveled from across the US for the care that can be provided here or heard similar stories from our nurses. One of the only things worse than having your child in the hospital is the inability to get them there, so we did some research and found an organization called Children's Flight of Hope, which provides air transportation for children in need of specialized medical care.
We're looking to raise as much money as we can to hopefully be able to support at least one family that needs to get to CHOP or somewhere else in the world to provide the care they need for a child. Any and all donations would go directly to CFH in Des's name. More information can be found here: https://www.childrensflightofhope.org/
Thank you in advance for considering a donation!
