Hello Supporters of Trash Club! Trash Club has removed over 75 tons of trash from the banks and waters of Whatcom Creek over the past 4 years through our monthly human-powered litter clean-ups.
We also run a side project known as "Canarchy Public Works" which involves placing and servicing guerilla garbage cans along the creek in areas where there is significant human activity and the city does not provide trash service. This gives folks in the area a place to put their trash so it doesn't end up on the ground, minimizing the amount of litter in the surrounding areas. Our Canarchy activities have been highly successful, with the can pictured (located at Maritime Heritage Park) collecting over 4 tons of trash in the last 3 years.
We have identified the need for additional guerilla garbage cans along the creek in several new spots, and at least one of our older cans is due for replacement. Our cans are recycled 55-gallon drums, so the cost for those is minimal, but the cost of the proper lids (steel for fire resistance, our cans have caught fire before) is significant - over $100 each.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to fund the purchase of 6 new lids for 6 new guerilla garbage cans, which comes out to about $666 including shipping. If you're a supporter of Trash Club, please consider donating. If we receive the funding we need, these new guerilla garbage cans will be installed early next month and I will personally empty each of the cans every week!
Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for your support.
