Urgent Help Needed: Trans Youth Emergency Fund

The Trump Administration’s cruel anti-trans agenda has inflicted a profound and heartbreaking toll on our community here in southwestern PA. Rather than use their immense power to fight the administration's vicious, unconstitutional federal directives, all the major healthcare systems in the region quickly caved, preemptively ending almost all access to life-saving gender affirming healthcare for trans adolescents and young adults in the region.

While it’s true that gender affirming care for trans youth is still legal in Pennsylvania, in reality, it’s nearly impossible to access. UPMC alone has abandoned more than 400 trans kids and their families in the tri-state area. These families are now faced with agonizing decisions and insurmountable financial burdens just to secure the basic medical care their children desperately need. Now, in the wake of the brutal ruling by the compromised Trump Supreme Court in Skrmetti v. L.W., even more anti-trans laws and policies are imminent.

We are working to establish a fund to help local families cover the costs of seeking private care and/or travel expenses to access care elsewhere. Funds will be distributed on an as-needed basis. With so many families facing a dwindling supply of life-saving medications, your contribution is crucial. All donations will directly support local families struggling to ensure their children maintain access to the critical medical care they need to survive and thrive.
