I am a transgender woman. The judicial system of the State of South Dakota has denied me the ability to affirm my gender identity by updating my birth certificate. I have continued my battle by filing a case with the Supreme Court of South Dakota. I am doing this because there are many government agencies and other private and public entities that require a birth certificate to issue identification that reflects who I really am. By not allowing this, I am denied the same legal rights and protections all other Americans have. The legal bills for this fight have mounted and I am asking for help. I am standing up not only for myself, but for thousands of transgender South Dakotans or many thousand others like myself who were born there. Any excess donations will be sent to South Dakota trans advocacy groups to continue our struggle for legal rights. Thank you for your support on behalf of all transgender and gender non-conforming kids and adults in our nation.
