Support a Trans Immigrant in need of safe housing
Hi, my name is Matti and I have created this Gofundme for my dear friend, Z. She has asked for immediate support and given consent to share this Gofundme with community, but asked to keep her name private for fear of repercussions from community members and/or family. Thank you all so much for any help you're able to offer.
Z is a 28-year-old trans woman from Mexico who fled her home due to transphobic violence only to spend the better half of 2019 locked up in an ICE detention center. In early 2021, after her release, she was finally granted asylum status and began searching for work but, due to Covid, steady employment has been incredibly challenging to find. She has had stable housing up until recently when her living situation became unsafe and was forced to leave. Since then she has been staying on peoples couches until she can find permanent, safe housing.
Z is an incredibly strong and resilient woman. She is an incredibly talented artist as well as a deeply kind and compassionate human. The lack of access to affordable housing and stable employment has had serious impacts on her health. She has worked so hard to get to this point, crossing the border on her own, spending months in ICE, fighting for herself in our court system. Violence in her home country, coupled with violence here in the US, from the state and from individuals, has forced her into yet another unsafe situation.
I am creating this Gofundme so that she can secure safe and stable housing immediately and focus her energy on finding steady employment and healing. Trans immigrants deserve to have their basic needs met without question, they deserve safety. Please help me in supporting her.
Any funds raised will go directly to Z to help in paying a security deposit and rent for a new home. We have set a goal of $5,000 in order to give her a minimum of 3 months rent + security deposit. We would like to give these funds to her ASAP as currently she is currently in need of stable housing.

Z is looking for a place of her own in SF Bay Area, preferably East Bay, as well as stable employment somewhere close-by. Her English language skills are limited at the moment, but she is actively taking class and working on improving every day.
