Update on Tramaine
Tramaine was released from the hospital on Monday and is currently back at the shelter. Over the next two weeks, he has several follow-up doctor’s appointments as he continues to recover.
Unfortunately, the shelter environment doesn’t meet his medical needs, and being there has made his health worse over time. We’re doing all we can to advocate for supportive housing, but the process is long, complex, and filled with barriers—especially for someone managing serious medical conditions while navigating this system from inside a shelter.
This isn’t as simple as just finding a place to rent. Between income requirements, the lack of affordable accessible units, and how many systems he has to go through just to be considered, it’s tremendously difficult to find stable housing—even with some funds available.
That’s why your support has meant so much. Tramaine is overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity you’ve shown. I’ve been sharing your donations and messages with him, and he sends his heartfelt thanks.
We’re being careful and strategic about how to use the money—so it doesn’t just help now, but helps build a stable, long-term foundation for his recovery and independence.
Thank you for continuing to stand with him. please continue to share this if you are able.

Help Tramaine Recover, Heal, and Rebuild
I'm reaching out on behalf of our dear friend Tramaine, who is facing a tough chapter — but one filled with hope and possibility.
Many of you may know Tramaine from Carnegie Hall, where he has worked for decades as an usher — quietly, consistently helping audience members with mobility challenges, assisting elders, and ensuring every guest feels seen, welcomed, and respected. He’s spent his life in service to others, always showing up with kindness, patience, and grace.
Now, it’s time for us to show up for him.
After 2 years of navigating unstable housing in the NYC shelter system, Tramaine is now recovering from serious health challenges, including a recent hospital stay. He’s working hard to recover — and with the right support, he can regain his health and independence.
Your donation will help:
- Provide safe, stable housing while he heals
- Cover meals, clothing, and basic essentials
- Support medical care and transportation to appointments
- Give him the breathing room to focus on recovery and rebuilding
The shelter system has made things harder — limiting even simple needs like preparing a meal or managing medication — but Tramaine has never stopped trying. He just needs a safe space and a community that believes in him.
Let’s come together to lift up someone who’s quietly lifted so many.
Let’s remind Tramaine that he is not alone.
Thank you so much for your love, generosity, and support.
With deep gratitude
Jill Marshall
