Support Tracy's Cancer Fight

Our friend and colleague, Tracy Bacenas, needs our help.

Tracy recently got the devastating news that she has a large, cancerous bone tumor in her hip socket and pelvic bones. This cancer, chondrosarcoma, does not respond to chemotherapy or radiation, so the only treatment is to remove the tumor with a wide margin. Soon, she will undergo major surgery to remove her entire hip and half of her pelvis in a limb-saving surgery called internal hemipelvectomy. The rehabilitation will be quite long, probably 3 to 4 months in the hospital, and then several months at home. She will have a difficult road ahead of her to simply be able to walk again, most likely with the use of crutches or a cane.

This would be crushing news to anyone. But for Tracy, who regularly plays sports with her two teenage sons, Dylan and Andrew, and treks miles with her husband, Jason (and in her own downtime, dances like nobody's watching), it's heartbreaking.

It also means that in order for Tracy's family to stay in their home, they will need extensive modifications to their home’s entryway, bathroom, and kitchen to accommodate Tracy’s new mobility challenges.

As a freelance contractor, Tracy, like many of us, faces the reality of not having any of the financial protections of a permanent job. She is now confronting what so many of us fear: being unable to work because of a medical emergency.

Tracy has been a great friend and editor for many seasons of The Bachelor and Survivor. Let’s come together as a community in this time of need and do whatever we can to reduce some of the pressures that she and her family are facing, so their sole focus can be on Tracy's health and recovery.
