My childhood best friend (sister by choice), Tracey Farrow Singletary, has Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. I can't even pronounce that word, but to put it in layman's terms, it is genetic COPD. She has been battling this disease for many years, gone through several lung surgeries, and has now been officially listed for a double lung transplant! Just getting to be on this list is excellent news!

But at the same time, it is also very scary because that means her health is in serious decline. It also means that in order for her to move up the list and eventually receive a double lung transplant, a gracious donor's family is grieving the loss of their loved one.

The costs associated with receiving a transplant are enormous. Post-surgery, Tracey will need round-the-clock care for several months. For the first few months, she and her husband will also have to move from their home to be closer to the transplant hospital in case of any complications or medical emergencies. She will be required to take expensive immunosuppressant medication for life, and she will have frequent follow-up appointments to monitor her health.

It will be extremely difficult for her husband to work during this time as he will also be caring for her medical needs. While these costs are enormous, Tracey's life is priceless.

Any assistance with these temporary housing costs, transportation needs, and other medical expenses is greatly appreciated.
