THE ADVENTURES OF TORI AND HER ONE LITTLE KIDNEY CONTINUE!
As many of you may know, myself and our dear friend Catherine were at the center of a pretty amazing work of God back in 2023. Catherine needed a new kidney due to advanced kidney failure, and I was the first person to test for a match. By some miracle, or work of God, I was a complete match, and we proceeded with the surgery! Since then, both of us are absolutely thriving, and the Kidney Donors group has been a huge community for me post donation! Here's a photo of us 1 week pre surgery & 1 month post surgery:
Each year the KDA (Kidney Donor Athletes) group hosts a "one kidney climb" with a limited amount of openings, and USUALLY it's not within the USA. Past trips have been to destinations Kilimanjaro and even Guatemala! For the first year they're hosting the climb, limited to 15 donors, at the GRAND CANYON!
I have the absolute privilege of being selected for this climb in October! We will be hiking from the South Rim to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in ONE DAY (21+ Miles).
I could not be more humbled and honored to be chosen among some other amazing donors to complete this challenge, and am fundraising to support the Kidney Donor Athlete's organization & the trip!

- Participants will traverse the Grand Canyon's immense and rugged terrain, journeying from the South Rim to the North Rim in one day—a challenging and demanding feat of endurance. With over 20 miles of steep descents and ascents, this climb tests physical limits while highlighting the power of the human spirit and commitment to showing the world what can be accomplished post-donation.
- This trek will follow the Kaibab Trail, a legendary route from the South Rim to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, providing a breathtaking and strenuous path that takes adventurers through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. Starting at the South Rim, the trail descends into the canyon, offering panoramic views of the towering cliffs and vibrant rock layers that define the Grand Canyon's geological grandeur. Hikers traverse a series of switchbacks, deep gorges, and rugged terrain, descending nearly 5,000 feet throughout the trek.
- The ever-changing vistas captivate every step as the trail weaves through diverse ecosystems, from the dense forests of the North Rim to the sunbaked desert surroundings near the Colorado River. The route then climbs steeply toward the North Rim, where the views open to expansive overlooks and sweeping vistas of the canyon's endless beauty. This challenge, spanning more than 20 miles, is a test of endurance and an unforgettable journey that immerses hikers in the raw, untamed majesty of one of nature's most magnificent wonders.
- This historic event not only showcases the stunning, awe-inspiring landscapes of Arizona's Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend — with their towering cliffs, vibrant red rock formations, and the majestic Colorado River below — but also shines a spotlight on the perseverance and courage of kidney donors. As the first domestic challenge for KDA, the climb is a unique opportunity to bring together a community of athletes and advocates to celebrate kidney donation and the extraordinary capabilities of those who live with one kidney. It's a testament to organ donation's strength, beauty, and transformative impact.
