Support Topanga Canyon and Saddle Peak Fire

Introduction:

The Palisades Fire, igniting on January 7, 2025, has wreaked havoc over 15,800 acres, decimating homes and structures in Topanga Canyon and Saddle Peak. Driven by fierce Santa Ana winds, the fire's containment has been a daunting challenge, leading to evacuations and the loss of historic landmarks like the Topanga Ranch Motel. This GoFundMe campaign is dedicated to supporting the community, the Topanga Coalition for Emergency Preparedness (TCEP), and the valiant firefighters on the front lines.

About Me:

I am Brendan Playford, and my wife Cate Rung and I lived at 23036 Saddle Peak Road from 2020 to 2023. We are deeply connected to the Saddle Peak and Topanga, having experienced firsthand the beauty and community spirit of this area. My commitment to this community drives me to help in its time of need and we are personally donating an initial amount of $20,000 to this campaign as a sign of our commitment.

The Impact:

The Los Angeles Fire Department's resources were stretched thin due to simultaneous fire outbreaks across the city. Topanga saw minimal direct support, with firefighting efforts predominantly shouldered by local volunteers. This has led to significant delays in fire suppression, worsening the impact on Topanga, including the displacement of the community, animals, wildlife and degradation of natural habitats.

Our Goals:

Immediate Relief for Residents: Financial aid for essentials like food, clothing, temporary housing, and medical expenses.

Support for TCEP: To replenish and enhance emergency response capabilities.

Aid for Firefighters: Providing equipment upgrades and support for physical and mental health of those who fought the fire.

Community Rebuilding: Long-term recovery for homes, community centers, and businesses.
