On the evening of February 2nd, Tonya had a stroke. She was admitted to North Memorial and was in ICU for 3 days. The stroke was in the speech portion of the brain, so speech is affected as well as her right side. The right leg has an impairment, the right arm is a bit more. The main impairment right now is her speech. She can speak, but with very limited words. We know she is understanding what we say but just is not able to express her true words at this time. Therapy will work with her on this and the right side issues to make progress.
She has been referred and accepted to the inpatient rehab program here. It's undetermined how long she will be in rehab.
Tonya will be out of work for an unknown amount of time if she will be able to return at all. Tonya had a limited amount of PTO to use and she will end up without pay after this week. As well Scott has been off work since day one to be with Tonya.
Insurance coverage costs will skyrocket due to her being out of work as well, as they don't cover you once she s not working. Tonya will accrue a great amount of debt in medical bills and insurance premium costs. That is on top of just typical monthly bills that still will need to be paid of course. We are unsure when or if she will be able to return to work.
Because of this reason, we have set up a GoFundMe account to help with these and one less worry for her at this time. Recovery is a long process, often stressful and frustrating. Not knowing the duration makes this even more difficult to be prepared. With any health condition, we know it's always two steps forward and one step back. It would be nice to not have to worry about the financial aspects of this as well.
