In the early morning hours of May 1, 2026, our dear friend Tony Wright suffered a life-changing medical emergency while at work at the Salty Dolphin on North Padre, where he was working as a manager. A coworker found Tony struggling on the ground, knew something was seriously wrong, and immediately called EMS — helping save his life. Once at the hospital, doctors discovered Tony had suffered a severe stroke caused by a blood clot in the artery leading to the left side of his brain. What followed has been an incredibly difficult journey filled with uncertainty, strength, and determination.

Tony is a proud Army veteran of more than 10 years and spent over 30 years working as a crane operator before health issues forced him to step away from that career. Anyone who knows Tony knows he is hardworking, kind-hearted, and deeply loved throughout our community. Since being hospitalized, Tony has faced many challenges: he spent days on dialysis, underwent intensive care treatment in the ICU, struggled with speech, swallowing, and motor skills, and is now beginning the long process of physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Although Tony is still unable to communicate clearly at this time, he continues fighting every day and is showing small signs of progress and determination.

On May 14th, Tony was finally moved out of ICU, and on May 15th he was transferred to PAM Rehab Hospital, where he continues working toward recovery and regaining independence. Doctors have made it clear that recovery will take time, patience, and extensive rehabilitation. While Tony does have VA medical coverage as a veteran, there are still many unexpected expenses and ongoing needs that come with long-term recovery and rehabilitation. We are asking for help to ease some of the financial burden during this difficult time. Donations will help with rehabilitation and recovery-related expenses, transportation and ongoing care needs, living expenses during recovery, and unexpected costs along the way. Most importantly, we want Tony to be able to focus fully on healing without the overwhelming stress of financial hardship.

If you know Tony, you know he would be the first person willing to help someone else in need. Now it’s our turn to show up for him. Please consider donating, sharing this fundraiser, and keeping Tony and his loved ones in your prayers as he continues this fight. Thank you all for your love, support, kindness, and prayers.
