On February 9th, 2026, while most of us were winding down after the Super Bowl, I received a call from Tony Sanchez’s wife, Erika. She said Tony had fallen and they couldn’t get him up. As a pharmacist and close friend, I’ve often helped Erika with medical advice, but this time it was clear they needed more urgent help. Tony, who is a brittle diabetic and had previously received a kidney from his sister, had been struggling with ongoing foot infections. That night, I advised Erika to call 911, and Tony was rushed to the hospital.

Tony’s journey since then has been nothing short of miraculous. While in the hospital, he coded six times, but somehow, he pulled through. Unfortunately, the complications led to the difficult decision to amputate his leg. After weeks in the hospital, Tony has just been released to a rehabilitation facility, where he’s beginning the long process of recovery. Erika, his kids, his family, and close friends have been by his side every step of the way, offering love and support.

Now, reality is setting in for Tony and Erika. With Tony unable to work, they’ve gone from a dual-income household to relying solely on Erika’s earnings. The mortgage and hospital bills are piling up, and they need help to get through this transition until Tony can return to work or secure disability assistance.
