Support Tony Foulds' Journey to Honor WWII Sacrifice

Hi! My name is Rebecca Dunn and I recently had the honor of meeting an incredible man named Tony Foulds. It is my wish and absolute goal to bring him to St. Louis for a very special reason. His story has changed my heart, and has created a hope that we can honor not only Tony, but the lives of ten American airmen, one from St. Louis, who gave their lives to save Tony and many others in World War 2.

Tony lives in the UK. He wasn’t old enough to understand war when it came crashing into his world. He was just a little boy — playing in Endcliffe Park in Sheffield, England in 1944 — when an American bomber suddenly appeared overhead. It was damaged, smoke trailing behind, and struggling to stay in the air. Inside were ten young American airmen, thousands of miles from home, returning from a mission in World War II.

Their pilot was First Lieutenant John G. Kriegshauser only 23 years old, from St. Louis.

As the plane descended, Lt. Krieghauser saw what was below: children playing, mothers with prams, houses surrounding the park, families who had already endured too much. He made a decision no one should ever have to make — a decision that saved every single one of those lives in the park, yet cost all ten Americans their own. Tony stood there as a child and watched those heroes give everything for strangers. That moment has stayed with him every single day of his life.

There is a memorial to the ten airmen in Endcliffe Park. For more than 70 years, Tony has tended to the memorial almost every day, honoring the space that was built to memorialize those brave men. In the UK, they are lovingly called "Tony's 10." Tony visits the park daily and stands by the memorial, cleaning it and talking to passersby about the courage and sacrifice that he witnessed as a young lad.

He has done this not for thanks…

not for attention…

but because he believes he owes his entire life to them.

Yet, in all these years, Tony has never set foot in the country those young men died for. That is what I want to change. That is what I am asking your help for. We are working to bring Tony to St. Louis — to the hometown of Lt. Kriegshauser — to honor the man who saved him and all those around him that day.

I made a promise to Tony that I would bring him to the United States and I need your help to complete this pledge. I have been working hard to make sure his time here is rewarding and pays respects to all ten men, especially the pilot since we are located in St. Louis. I have already arranged for accommodations and transportation is organized as well as a couple of events honoring all involved. I started this fundraiser as I am looking for help in covering the flights for Tony and a caretaker, and medical insurance needed for UK travelers to come to the US. If we reach our goal, we can book economy plus seats, giving Tony a little more comfort than just economy given his age. If we fall short of our goal, we will look at regular economy tickets, and if we exceed our goal, we will make a donation to Endcliffe park for the continued care of the memorial to Tony's Ten.

If you can either donate or share, we would be honored with your help. Let's bring Tony to St. Louis!
