Meet Toni! She is a three-year-old Pitbull/Bloodhound/Chihuahua super mutt rescue that has been my baby girl and best friend since November of 2023. She is a courageous adventure dog with an endless battery and a voracious hunger for cuddles, treats, and playtime with her doggy peers.
On December 21st, during a routine disc golf outing, Toni and her best friend, Dolly, got separated from our group. After hours of searching in the dark, we found them. Dolly was exhausted and uninjured. Toni had suffered a luxation of her left hip joint (Thank you for staying with Toni, Dolly!). We rushed her to the ER where she underwent X-rays to confirm the dislocation, and her hip was manually reset that night. Two days later, on Christmas Eve, Toni's hip dislocated for a second time while she was in bed at home.
The emergency vet determined she needed a femoral head ostectomy (FHO), a major hip surgery to remove the damaged femoral head and allow scar tissue to form a "false joint." The surgery was necessary to prevent chronic pain and give Toni a chance at normal mobility. On December 26th, the vet performed the FHO on Toni, and the procedure was a success.
The multiple ER trips, emergency surgery, post-op care, and medications to date have come out to $8,500, which I have paid for using credit cards. Toni is now recovering and attending physical therapy sessions to help her regain strength and range of motion. She also has multiple follow-up appointments scheduled with her veterinarian. Total costs will be around $10,000 by the time she has fully recovered.
I'm asking for help covering $4,000 of these unexpected costs. Toni is a huge part of my life, and watching her work through her recovery has been both heartbreaking and inspiring. Any contribution helps ease the financial burden so I can focus on her rehabilitation and continue to invest in her health.
Thank you for your support. It means the world to us.
